Acquiring Competencies

For this page, I will be talking about my successes throughout this research project process. On the Collaboration Tab I talk about all of the feedback I have received recently. I dive into the changes that can be different and beneficial towards Madison. With that being said, here is a list of my most successful moments throughout the entire thesis project! I will be highlighting mainly the best points from every week starting with Month 1 of the thesis, however skipping the second to last month because I messed that up. Although I did receive grades and do well in the second to last month class, I used an entirely different subject thinking the Thesis was at its closing the month before. Some pictures will be repeated as well from previous pages to depict the correct message throughout this whole process.

MDM615 Mastery Journal Week 1:

To get started, I was very excited to work on the thesis. I thought we would be coming up with our own idea and creating that versus being given a prompt and working on it that way. However, I believe the presentation I gave for Madison was executed perfectly. I came up with a cover image which depicted the whole tour idea, Madison’s July 4th Tour poster would feature her in the middle completely blacked out with red and white stripes behind her. This also included a blue border with white dots to depict stars. For the first week here I was very pleased with the effort I gave and was ready to continue moving forward! This ended up setting a good ground for the rest of the project and what Madison would be standing for and a part of within herself.

MDM615 Mastery Journal Week 2:

This week was getting a background set, what has inspired Madison and what kind of country singer she will really be. There are many genres within country music itself, I ended up choosing rock and roll country for Madison. It feels like Rock and Roll country has better experiences around it, everyone seems happier because the beat is so uplifting as well. These results surfaced with the help of Toby Keith as well as Zach Bryan. I used Toby Keith as one of her main inspirations because of his Red White and Blue guitar, that alone really depicted the whole entirety of Madison’s tour.

The ideas for Madison were based around it being as patriotic as possible and this allowed a new kind of surfacing to appear, will she be a hick country singer, or will she be a star that loves her home town and her own music. Overall I was attempting to get the voice and tone of the whole entire tour/ brand behind Madison with this week more than any other.

MDM615 Mastery Journal Week 3:

Week three was getting an understanding on how the whole July 4th Tour would look and really feel. I expressed how I wanted it to be family appropriate. This meaning people of all ages being able to listen to Madison’s music without second guessing if it was right for them or the rest of their families. The over all feeling of love and having fun, being able to rock out to good music and enjoy good is the self fulfillment Madison will feel. She wants to ensure people can stand by her and say that she is an incredible country star. One of her actual logos has her name surrounded by stars because she wants to be that pop country rock and roll singer that is able to variate from different moods in one concert as a whole.

MDM615 Mastery Journal Week 4:

The final week of this month was the creation of Madison’s Vision Board. The look and feel/ voice and tone played a crucial part for the development of this. Getting into the nitty gritty and trying to make what the concert would look like was harder than I thought. However I was able to complete the assignment with more than enough time and do some touch ups to the vision board as it was, my greatest success here would be how everything was placed. Also how I was able to get all the information in without making it look messy or crowded.

MDM620 Mastery Journal Week 1:

The start of this month felt fresh and I was ready to get things rolling properly. Overall it felt more simple, the instructions were simple, draw thirty sketches for logos and make sure they are rough sketches. I

stayed more towards the patriotism side for rightful reason, however actually coming up with logos for this entire scenario was difficult. Thirty different ideas was hard so I am glad I succeeded. Every logo was based behind Madison, cowboy hats, eagles, beer, etc.

MDM620 Mastery Journal Week 2:

Week two, things got more difficult, the class and myself had to circle our best logos that were created. The next step from there was to create four renditions of six total logos until final products from those forms occurred. It was very difficult trying to come up with different yet similar logos in the same sense. I'm proud that I was able to succeed here in creating something so small yet so difficult. Each rendition of the six logos came from a combination of all thirty logos together.

MDM620 Mastery Journal Week 3:

The third week I was evaluating and refining these six final logos. This did not prove to be too much of a challenge for me, however working everything together trying to make two logos out of it was more difficult than any part of the class itself. The result I came up with is something I am exceptionally proud of, one logo more pop style themed and the other more for merchandising as a whole. The beer logo defines her childhood with a cowboy hat and an eagle feather coming off the hat, with beer pouring out of the can having her tour schedule on it. The actual logo itself also has the American Flag built into it, while the "Madison" pop logo is different. Having a semi circle around it and stars, the right side of the logo itself has a guitar, also implicating an American Flag.

MDM620 Mastery Journal Week 4:

The final week of this month included a powerpoint and reflection video alongside it. The powerpoint was the logos, vision board, look and feel as well as voice and tone. The overall point of it was to create the whole feel for the brand, how is it gonna turn out and what necessities are needed for Madison to have a successful tour. Nothing was too difficult about this section, rather it felt like copy and paste from past work I have done. I felt prepared for it and executed it with ease.

MDM640 Mastery Journal Week's 1-4:

As I mentioned on the collaboration page here on the website, this month I messed up confusing the actual assignment to not be thesis oriented. However something that really helped me get to the starting point of the Locavore example and finishing with a strong subject was the actual self reflection sheets we were given. They helped me dive into the nitty gritty of what I could have done better and what is fine the way it is until I got what felt like a reasonably perfect product. The overall success from this class was good! Not because I received a good grade but rather I feel like I learned a large sum of information regarding how to make a

different brand's vision board and dive into self reflection. This ensured for no grammatical errors as well as nothing in the image feeling too busy, the image is seen on the collaboration page as well.

MDM650 Mastery Journal Week 1:

Week one was more simplistic than anything, it was designing how the merchandise would look and the watermark. I did a super rough sketch for the merchandise however the watermark I tried my hardest. The watermark looks like it was easy create, because it is just the black and white beer logo on a blank page. However the positioning and making sure it was not too big took a few attempts. I wanted it to be perfect, so that would be my greatest success through the first week of this class. The watermark image itself is yes a copy and paste and feedback said it should have been different. Rather I went with the same logo because it felt right for Madison's case. Creating multiple new things over and over is good practice as a designer, but for the sake of the Thesis project I wanted to keep everything on the same plane.

MDM650 Mastery Journal Week 2:

The second week for this month was once again not as challenging, I just dove into the logo I had for the brand and created it onto shirts, mugs and hats. The feedback I received however was I cannot simply put the logo onto a shirt and call it a day, when in reality a lot of brands do in fact do this. Just like the watermark, the same plane came into effect again. I wanted to make sure everything was similar because this is the first tour Madison will be having, too many logos and too much advertising can almost be bad for her. Zach Bryan for example has his literal full name on a shirt and that’s it. The funny part about that too is it is sold at his concerts. I am proud of these as well because they speak on Madison and the simplicity behind them is rather pleasing to myself.

MDM650 Mastery Journal Week 3:

Week three I struggled with a lot however compared to the last two weeks. This one had us implicate animation into our logos. For me personally I thought I did it correctly only to find out through feedback it did not work which was upsetting in its own sense. I attempted again to get the animation how I wanted it only to fail once again. Multiple attempts occured for this even making the beer pouring from the can as multiple renditions into one final product so it looked like stop animation, only for it all to continue failing. I am proud of the success overall this month and how hard I tried to get the actual beer in the beer can logo to move, but overall it was not the biggest success throughout the whole thesis project.

MDM650 Mastery Journal Week 4:

The final week was going into depth on the fully completed product/ prototype. My classmates and myself, just like every month, were all given a prompted schedule to work on. However in the scenario it was different, having to pre plan out everything made it somewhat more difficult to stand by. On the contrary I did fully succeed in following the list of order and making sure everything is on time. The feedback stated that the whole entire plan should not have been finished right away, when in reality I wanted to stay on track with a plan I pre made. However if the plan did deviate at all in needed to be updated, luckily the plan did not deviate and I was left with a final creation that stuck fully to the plan. This whole entire project ended up being based around this structural plan for logo creation, merchandise and advertisement as well. "Instagram and Facebook" pages were made along side this and when I say that in quotations, I simply mean I put images onto a Facebook and Instagram to mimic the idea that Madison had her own social media. Advertisements were also made with me practically using the EA Sports guy's tone of voice as well as the first image on this page regarding Madison with the American Flag behind her. This Thesis has been difficult to say the least, and with that I am very proud with the amount of work I had put in as well as the final result.
